Nationally Recognised 4wd Driver Training

The Northern Territory has many different conditions such as sand, bull dust, gravel, corrugations, rocky terrain and dangerous water crossings.

For some people, driving a 4x4 in the NT is an everyday activity but a large majority (including recreational 4WD’ers) can be very inexperienced as off road drivers.

The aim of these courses is to provide awareness and practical instruction on safe driving technique, safe recovery techniques, remote driving and the associated risks, emergency braking and vehicle control on sealed and unsealed roads.

Drivers will understand the affects and consequences of speed, time and fatigue management, and learn correct vehicle maintenance practices.

This course covers the following units from Certificate III - Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package (SIS10)

SISODRV302A Drive and recover a 4WD vehicle - This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to drive a four wheel drive vehicle through and over a variety of terrain types. This includes the application of basic vehicle recovery techniques and maintenance.

SISODRV404A Drive a 4WD Vehicle in difficult terrain - This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to drive a 4WD  through and over difficult terrain for work or recreational purposes.

SISODRV405A Coordinate recovery of a 4WD Vehicle - This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to coordinate recovery of a 4WD vehicle using advanced techniques and equipment such as snatch straps, winches and jacks in difficult terrain conditions.

These modules are delivered in a 2 day format. Group sizes are typically between 5 - 7 people. Students are required to provide a 4wd vehicle to participate in the practical modules. Courses are held in Alice Springs at our premises, 63 Smith Street, however, we also specialise in remote area training on request.

SISODRV201A Drive AWD/4WD vehicles on unsealed roads - This unit covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to drive a 4WD or All Wheel Drive on unsealed roads. It covers driving on graded, formed dirt roads and small water crossings and is suitable for those who require training for driving on gravel roads but do not need to negotiate "off road" driving and the challenges involved.
